DIAGNOSTICS
Autonomic Diagnostics: Most autonomic diagnostics have been derived from Heart-Rate Variability signals. This is not the only portal to the ANS. Can we develop alternative diagnostic portals, and if we do so what novel learning will they grant us about the ANS?
BROAD SOCIAL ISSUES
Salugenesis: How can we grow an awareness that what we call healthcare is actually sickcare, and that humans need to pro-actively focus on health creation? How can we extend health creating pedagogy and technique more broadly to permeate discourse in the healing arts and society-at-large?
Centering the Maternal-Infant Dyad: Societies that centralize maternal health and supports for early infant wellbeing (zero to 9 months, 9 months to 3 years) have the strongest chance of creating social landscapes of enduring wellbeing for all. How do we accelerate a virtuous cycle in this area from public health, implementation, and policy perspectives?
Understanding the Neurophysiological Drivers of Authoritarianism: We are experiencing a global resurgence of Authoritarianism, with neo-Fascist parties in Europe and the United States moving into the mainstream (far right parties becoming normalized as right). This conflation of nationalist and conservative agendas is an exploitation of social discontents that boils down to groups that traditionally held social and economic power feeling threatened and disenfranchised by other demographic groups. No one in the public discourse is conceptualizing or addressing this issue as an issue about safety (or lack thereof) driving defensive neurophysiology. Yet this is a root driver of these movements. How do we bring this into public consciousness and transform it?
AI to II (Artificial Intelligence to Indigenous Intelligence): How can we refocus society’s attention from the perilous pathways and existential risk of creating alienated super-human computers to turning towards the wisdom of Indigenous people for pathways forward to a viable and regenerative future? Part of this conversation is about economy and stepping outside of capitalism, which is a self-terminating extraction algorithm and into models of reciprocity that enrich a collective commons.
Creating Eco-Attachment that Transforms Human Behavior: We are 60 years into the environmental movement, but despite global ecological collapse, it is not changing people’s behavior at scale. We are still buying our SUVs, zipping around the world in jets private and otherwise, and consuming the resources of 3 planets. At root, this is because modern humans do not experience themselves as being part of the Living World. How do we transform this?
Autonomically-Informed Design, Architecture, and Urban Planning: What is the role of our understanding of how to create safety in the design and functioning of public spaces, architecture, design, and urban planning
